CAMPAIGN NOTES: Gillibrand Spotlighted By Democracy for America Fundraising Group

Democracy for America, the grassroots Democratic fundraising group chaired by Howard Dean's brother Jim, has spotlighted Kirsten Gillibrand's campaign as one to watch, and for Democrats to $upport.

Gillibrand, running in an effort to oust Republican Rep. John Sweeney from New York's 20'th Congressional District seat, was one of three candidates from across the country singled out as worthy of financial support because they are said by the group to be in a race that's winnable.

FERRARO BACKS CUOMO, KING ENDORSES SPENCER

Andrew Cuomo's campaign announced today that former Democratic vice-presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro has endorsed Cuomo's run for state attorney general.

Meanwhile, New York Republican congressman Peter King has taken sides in the increasingly nasty race for the right to face Hillary Clinton this fall. The campaign of former Yonkers mayor John Spencer announced King's support today.

SPENCER CALLS ON McFARLAND TO GET OUT OF RACE

Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports today that Spencer has called on his Republican opponent, former Reagan administration official KT McFarland, to get out of the race. Spencer is angered by remarks made by McFarland's campaign manager Ed Rollins about Spencer's personal life.

GRASSROOTS GROUP HITS KELLY ON TERM-LIMIT PROMISE

Take19, the grass roots group on a mission to defeat Republican Rep. Sue Kelly in New York's 19th Congressional District, more-or-less suggested Kelly get out of the race today. On its Web site, Take19 reminds Kelly that 12 years (6 terms) ago, the then-freshman Congresswoman signed the Republican's Contract With America. Among the provisions of the "contract," was proposed legislation (never enacted) the would impose a 6-term term limit on House members.
